Help Break  the Cycle of Stress + Illness

fast grant distribution single mother medical bill relief

When serious illness strikes—often caused or worsened by chronic stress conditions— single mothers shoulder an overwhelming burden alone.

Skyrocketing Medical Costs

Chronic conditions like autoimmune disease and cancer average thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket expenses each year, draining already-thin family budgets. Accidents and other accute challenges take similar tolls that can spiral a family into poverty due to temporary reduced income and cash flow.

High Poverty Rates

Nearly 1 in 4 single-mother households live below the poverty line, compared to just 1 in 20 married-couple families. Health complications only deepen this gap and the healthcare industry isn’t designed to alleviate these burdens, with high out-of-pocket costs and complex bureaucratic hurdles that push mothers further into despair.

Stress Worsens Health

Financial strain fuels anxiety and depression, which in turn exacerbate chronic symptoms—trapping moms in a vicious cycle of mounting medical and living expenses—with less and less physical and emotional strength to close the gap and recover.

Lack of Easy Support

Doing the day-to-day alone is already hard enough. On top of that, external aid programs and fundraising options require lengthy applications, fees, or rigid eligibility with steep learning curves—barriers that are unbearingly exhausting for many mothers in crisis.

Mothers Healing Fund recognizes these urgent realities. Our mission is to give mothers in crisis moments of relief so they can focus on healing—not hardship.

About  the Fund

“Mothers Healing Fund was created to be a helping hand for moms—the kind I was lucky enough to receive. This fund is small, personal and rooted in lived experience. It exists to ease the pressure enough so a mother can take a breath, care for her children and continue her healing. Because sometimes, the smallest bit of support can change everything."

Why I Started The Mother’s Healing Fund:

In 2019 I was diagnosed with Lupus. A few months later I found myself pregnant with my fourth child and about six months into that pregnancy, things really started to go wrong. I was unknowingly in heart failure and went for a routine prenatal check up. I received a terrifying diagnosis of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and ended up staying in the hospital for the rest of my pregnancy. Everyone was preparing for the worst. Immediately, I was put on a 24/7 pump to deliver life-saving medication—and remained on that pump for the next three years.

Fortunately, my baby was born healthy at 33 weeks. I was discharged and sent home, but only managed to stay out of the hospital for a few weeks until I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease and went into a life-threatening thyroid storm. After recovering from that, came another diagnosis: Large Granular Lymphocytic Leukemia. In addition to the other medications, I spent about a year on oral chemotherapy.

My health challenges were only part of the story, at the time I was also living in a very unstable home. My marriage had been unraveling for years, and it was coming to a traumatic end. When things finally stabilized a bit, I managed to find a job and move out with my kids. I had to rebuild everything while working full time, managing my illnesses, and raising four children. There were many days I cried, wondering how I would stay alive, stay afloat, and keep going. I was stuck in a cycle of stress and illness with little hope I would ever rise above it.

But I did. It wasn’t just medicine and determination that pulled me through, good people stepped in to help when I didn’t even know what I needed. Friends, family and even complete strangers showed me kindness and generosity that not only lifted my spirits, but saved my life. Without them, I don’t know where I’d be.

This fund exists because I know what it’s like to be sick, scared, and still trying to keep the lights on and kids fed. I know how heavy the stress can be and how hard that makes it to truly heal, physically and beyond. I also know how life-changing it is when someone steps in and says, “You don’t have to do this part alone.”

Frequently Asked Questions

We're here to help and answer any questions about the application and donation process. If you still have questions...

Eligibility is simple: you must be a single mother (divorced, widowed, or permanently separated) living in the U.S., facing either a qualifying chronic health condition or a sudden medical emergency. Applicants demonstrate need through a brief letter from a licensed medical provider and a description of their circumstances—in as much or as little detail as they feel comfortable—in the application. No credit checks, medical records, or extensive documentation are required.

The application process is designed to be as painless as possible while ensuring that applicants are honest to ensure that the grant funds go to mothers who truly need support. To apply:

  1. Complete our simple online form including your story telling us how a grant would help cover essentials (e.g. rent, utilities, groceries, childcare) or help you and your family heal (e.g. R&R, vacation, activities, hobbies). You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
  2. Upload a one-page note from your doctor verifying your condition (we never share this information with anybody and delete records immediately after review).

We review on a rolling basis and notify recipients before grant distributions to confirm their preferred payment method.

If you are selected through our randomized selection process, grants are typically delivered within 3–5 business days via your choice of check, PayPal, or Venmo. This rapid turnaround minimizes financial stress and helps you maintain housing, utilities, and essentials as fast as possible.

If you reapply after you were not selected in the randomized selection process, any previous submissions will automatically roll into the next review cycle, increasing your chances over time.

We’re also building out a suite of additional supports for all applicants, including...

  • Discounted Healing Resources: Special offers on wellness products, therapeutic services, and restorative activities.
  • Health-Friendly Job Board: Remote and flexible work opportunities from partner brands committed to supporting mothers facing health challenges.
  • Healing Content & Training: Access to free guides, workshops, and product recommendations covering therapeutic practices, healthful nutrition, stress reduction techniques, and more.

We accept and review applications on a rolling basis throughout the year depending on the availability of funds through our fundraising efforts. Our goal is to offer monthly grants based on donations from individuals and partner brands, to ensure that every qualified mom receives support within the same month she applies.

We empower recipients to choose the relief that best stabilizes their household!

Grants may be used for critical living expenses like rent or mortgage payments, utility bills, groceries, emergency childcare, medical copays, car repairs, transportation, home repairs, etc. Or you can dedicate your grant to activities with or for your children, a family vacation, restorative relaxation for yourself (e.g. massage, spa, healing retreat, hobby), etc.

Never. Our application is always free, with absolutely no administrative or processing fees. We require only a concise medical confirmation from your medical provider—no extensive paperwork, credit checks, or income statements—so you can apply quickly and confidentially. You must be a single mothor in honest need of financial support. Recipients are determined through randomized selection to maintain unbiased and fair selection.

Grants come directly from donations by compassionate individuals and mission-aligned brands. We maintain a lean operating structure and low-cost digital infrastructure, enabling us to support as many mothers as possible. We also encourage recurring donors to stabilize monthly distributions and scale our impact.

Yes. If your health crisis continues or you face a new qualifying emergency, you may submit a new application after six months. Repeat awards depend on demonstrated need, available funding, ensuring broad access while managing resources responsibly.

You can empower and support single mothers facing health challenges by making a one-time gift, becoming a monthly benefactor, or sponsoring grants as a corporate partner. Spreading the word on social media and nominating a mom in need and encouraging her to apply also helps us grow our community of care—and extend healing relief to more families.
